4th Quarter Struggles Play Key Factor In 71-59 Loss To Carolina Christian

TOCCOA FALLS, GA. - The Toccoa Falls women's basketball team was unable to overcome its 4th quarter struggles and fell, 71-59, to Carolina Christian College on Tuesday evening at Lois DeLany Athletic Center.

The Lady Screaming Eagles (0-3) came out with a well balanced offensive first quarter. This balance would see Toccoa Falls to a 15-12 lead at the end of the first. This early lead was sparked by 5 points from MCKENZIE FLOYD, 4 points from MIMI SMITH, and 4 points from ARIEL JACKSON.

With Toccoa Falls taking a three point lead into the second quarter, it was now Carolina Christian that would come out as the aggressors after the break. ARIEL JACKSON did her best to keep the Screaming Eagles in it, as she would go on to score 8 of Toccoa Falls 11 points in the second quarter. Neither team would gain control at the half with the score tied up at 26 a piece.

With the game playing out to be a back and forth contest, it was now the Screaming Eagles turn to come out firing on all cylinders. A 15-6 scoring run would see Toccoa Falls take their biggest lead of the game (9) since the first quarter. Just as Toccoa Falls gained a little bit of breathing room, the Lady Centurions of Carolina Christian started a big run of their own. An 11-1 run to close out the third quarter would allow Carolina Christian to take a one point lead (43-42) going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged entirely to the Lady Centurions. Their fourth quarter offensive outburst proved to be too much to handle for the Screaming Eagles, as they would go on to be outscored 28-17 in the final period. The final score would end up being 71-59 in Carolina Christian's favor.


TURNING POINT:
-- With the Screaming Eagles ahead 41-32 with 3:40 left in the third, the Lady Centurions would go on an 11-1 run to end the quarter. This run put them ahead by one point, 43-42 going into the fourth.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- ARIEL JACKSON led Toccoa Falls with 17 points.
-- TAYLOR TUCKER scored 14 points off the bench for the Screaming Eagles, knocking down 4 three pointers.
